Montferrer is the nearest village
- just 1.2 miles from the farm. It’s a tiny friendly
community with a café, a restaurant, and a free open-air
swimming pool (with lifeguard!).
Arles-sur-Tech lies in the valley below the farm, about 6
miles away (10 Km). Close by are the spa town of Amélie-les-Bains
and the market-town of Céret, which Picasso made famous, with
its large, popular Saturday market.
The Mediterranean, with its picturesque fishing villages
(Collioure and port Vendres) and it’s less well-known
beaches (Argelès-sur-Mer, St-Cyprien and Canet),
are all within an hour’s drive: an easy day trip.
A few miles southward lies the Spanish border. One of
the first cities which you’ll encounter here is Figueras,
which became famous for its infamous inhabitant Salvador
Dali! The artist lies buried in his own museum.

The weekly clothing and food market, held
on Thursdays, is fun and good value. You’ll also find
typical Catalan culture in Girona and in Barcelona. The beaches
of the Costa Brava make for a complete and exciting canvas!
You can also hike in the mountains, accompanied by the
vast ‘Pic du Canigou’ (mountain of Canigou),
taking wonderful walks directly from the farm.
If you drive a few minutes from the farm you can stretch
your legs amongst panoramic mountain landscapes (tour Batère,
Prats de Mollo, La Preste...). Going further, past La Preste
(via Camprodon) to Val 2000 you can even ski in the wintertime!
And if you are not feeling up to a walk, simply enjoy
a quiet day on the farm.
